Self-Care Tips for Everyone

Most of you already know that I have a passion for health, wellness, and beauty. In fact, you probably have read in my previous Facebook or Got2bGina.com blog posts that wellness is beauty. I have made a commitment to learn how to help other people—friends, family, and community members—to achieve their health and wellness potential. Therefore, I will always share credible information along with my ideas of how you can improve or maintain your health.water2mom-self-care

Many of us have very busy lives: we work hard and overload our daily schedules. We don’t always make the time to ensure we are taking care of ourselves. And, I know that many of my friends and family members also fall into this category.

Therefore, I want to share some self-care tips to help you. You must make a commitment to yourself to learn how to best support your own health and wellness as you work toward your personal goals. You must make self-care a priority and essential part of your daily life. I had to decide to take care of myself, and I encourage you to decide to take care of wonderful you.001-Episode-Art

For good HEALTH, try these self-care tips:

  • Have at least 8 glasses of water every day.
  • Energize and take 20 deep breaths every day.
  • Admire your accomplishments and celebrate with aromatherapy every day. My favorite energizing essential oil blend is lavender and peppermint oils.
  • Listen to music and love your life every day. You are where you are supposed to be.
  • Think about your short- and long-term goals every day. Write your goals down and make them clear.
  • Hum for short intervals of time every day. It’s very calming and supports heart health. I remember when I was a young girl my great grandmother use to hum and sing while doing chores around the house.*

Above all else, I encourage you to love:  build strong personal relationships, nurture your spirit man, and give to those less fortunate. If you are already on this path of self-care, please share your ideas and tips. I look forward to reading your comments.

21 Ways to Use Essential Oils to Freshen and Clean

  1. Keep Pests at Bay

Keep spiders and rodents at bay with peppermint essential oil. These creepy critters can’t stand peppermint! Add 10-15 drops of the essential oil to a spray bottle with water and spray in the cracks and gaps where spiders and rodents enter your home. For extra protection, add one or two drops of peppermint oil to a cotton ball and leave it in common entrance places, such as doorways and basements.

  1. Keep Fruit Fresh

To keep your fruit fresh, wash fruit in a bowl of cool water with two to six drops of lemon essential oil. Stir the fruit in the bowl and leave it long enough for the food to pick up the essential oils. This will help increase the shelf life of your fruit, leaving it bright and ripe for a few extra days.

  1. Eliminate Shower Curtain Scum

Essential oils can be used to get rid of shower curtain scum. Use a spray bottle filled with warm water, four drops of eucalyptus essential oil and four drops of tea tree oil (melaleuca). Spray this mixture onto your shower curtain for cleaning and then onto your tub. Leave the mixture to help fight mold when the curtain is back in place.

  1. Freshen Your Home

To freshen the air in your home, use essential oils in your air filters. Every time you change your filters, add a few drops of your favorite essential oils before replacing them. Essential oils kill microbes in your ducts and will leave a pleasant scent throughout the house. Use cinnamon essential oil to clean the air with its anti-microbial properties or diffuse clove, rosemary or orange essential oils when guests come over to blow them away with your home’s fresh scent.

  1. Freshen Your Fridge

When cleaning out your fridge or freezer, use lime, grapefruit or lemongrass essential oils in your final rinse. It will leave your refrigerator with a refreshing scent and help to neutralize any mold that might be creeping into your fridge.

  1. Freshen Your Car

Keep your car smelling fresh with essential oils. The scent of essential oils are subtle and are easy to refill, making them the perfect car freshener. Try using an essential oil car diffuser to keep the scent longer and from overpowering your vehicle. Use lavender oil to relieve tension or rose oil to boost your mood on the way to work.

  1. Stay Safe in the Sun

You can create your own homemade, toxic-free sunscreen using essential oils. Mix coconut oil, zinc oxide, shea butter, helichrysum oil and lavender essential oil in a bottle and store for summer. This natural sunscreen will help protect your skin from damage at the park or neighborhood barbecue.

  1. Sleep Tight

To help you and your loved ones sleep better, place a few drops of lavender essential oil on a blanket or pillow, or add a few drops to a spray bottle with water and use it to freshen your sheets when making the bed. Keep the bottle with you on vacation and spray your hotel room to kill microbes and deodorize the room.

  1. Scour Dirty Pans

Clean out burnt pans with lemon essential oil. Boil water in the dirty pot or pan and add a few drops of lemon oil to remove burnt residue or stuck foods. You can also add a few drops of lemon oil to the dishwasher soap compartment before washing to leave your dishes spot-free.

 

  1. Freshen Your Gym Bag

Keep germs out of your gym bag with essential oils. Fill a spray bottle with water and a drop of tea tree and lavender essential oils to refresh your bag, shoes and yoga mat after a day at the gym. For smelly shoes, pick your favorite essential oil and put two drops on a cotton ball. Place a cotton ball in each shoe to find them refreshed in the morning.

  1. Control Flies

Open windows and outdoor cooking are some of the great perks of summer. But, these activities can attract pesky flies that ruin dinners. To create a barrier against flies at your next cookout, mix 25 drops of peppermint or lavender essential oils with water in a spray bottle. Use the mixture on windows, doors and dining tables. Make sure to shake well before use.

  1. Eliminate the Smell of Smoke

If you smoke or live next to someone who does, you can easily eliminate the smell of cigarette smoke with a few drops of essential oils. Put four drops of rosemary, tea tree and eucalyptus essential oils in a spray bottle and spray near your patio or in your car to neutralize odors.

  1. Preserve Your Leather

To preserve leather jackets, sofas and shoes, use essential oils to clean them. Soak a cloth in lemon essential oil and wipe down leather items. This will help keep the material from splitting and preserve the color.

  1. Scour the Sink

You can create an all-natural kitchen sink scrub to make your sink shine without using harmful chemicals. Make the mix using half a cup of baking soda, one-third cup of vinegar, and five drops of bergamot and lime essential oils. Use this mixture to scrub the sink and then rinse with warm water. Your kitchen sink will shine like new!

  1. Freshen Your Home While Vacuuming

Use your favorite essential oils when vacuuming to leave a fresh scent after cleaning. Add a cotton ball with a few drops of peppermint, spearmint or pine essential oils to your vacuum cleaner bag or collector cup for a refreshing scent. If you have dogs, use geranium essential oil to clear your carpets of canine smells.

  1. Freshen the Bathroom

Make your own bathroom freshener with natural essential oils. To neutralize unpleasing scents and freshen up your bathroom, apply a few drops of citrus, rose or lavender essential oils to a cotton ball and place it behind the toilet.

What’s Up? Media Presents The LOOK 4th Annual Beauty & Wellness Event

On Friday, February 24, I attended What’s Up? Media’s The LOOK 4th Annual Beauty & Wellness Event.  I do declare, I have never seen so many beauty and wellness vendors in one location.  There were 40 or more beauty and wellness vendors, and many renown beauty industry experts who define beauty and wellness trends were available.

Women could talk with experts about their personal wellness and image concerns, receive free eyebrow waxing (Just Browzing was in the house), get add-on hair extensions, receive a professional massage, and recreate their look with some of the best cosmetic products on the market.img_20170224_193143_9425525

From my arrival ‘til end of the event, champagne and amazingly delicious hors d’oeuvres were served.  This event was fabulous!  The LOOK, presented by The Sandel Duggal Med Spa, Annapolis’ Premiere Medical Spa and Center for Plastic Surgery was a “must attend” event of 2017.  It was the perfect girls’ night out.  I love, love, love The LOOK Fashion Show presented by Scout & Molly, Peach, and Coterie, a Boutique; hair and makeup by David Alexander Salon and Spa.  The models walked some of the hottest spring and summer styles and fashions.  The models were beautiful and excited to deliver—you could tell they were having fun—so much so that they made me want to walk the runway.  If you ever have the opportunity to attend this great event, you will understand my excitement.  I had so much fun!

Professional speakers and medical experts such as Claire S. Duggal, MD Board Certified Plastic Surgeon & Reconstructive Specialist; James Chappel, MD, FACS, Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Bryan Ambro, MD, MS Board Certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Annapolis Plastic Surgery; and Dr. Walton of the Women’s Center for Pelvic Health, all shared valuable information on topics important to women.  They talked about cosmetic breast surgery myths versus reality, advanced laser skin rejuvenation, surgical and non-invasive options for body contouring, and questions women should ask their doctor but are embarrassed.  Valuable information was shared by these professionals to educate the guests and to let them know that there were experts that they could turn to with their wellness and beauty concerns.

Although there were 40 or more vendors I visited the vendors listed below, as I have a social butterfly nature.  I also won two dynamic prizes and received some great gifts, coupons and first visit offers:

Ready to Shed Some Pounds?

I am sure it has crossed your mind how you will shed those pounds you put on from the festivities of Super Bowl 51.  You have enjoyed the festivities to include the beer, wings, chicken quesadilla, and pizza.  Now, let me share some slim down ideas that may work for you.imagesa3hdr8om

Personally, I believe that most diets will work if you are committed to following them.  And, if you do something long enough, or for 21 days, it becomes a habit.  This is where your actions will require great discipline.

For the record, I am in favor of all weight loss programs:  Shape Fast, Weight Watchers, Weight Not, or Nutrisystem.  These programs work and they all recommend eating less food to lose weight.  I am giving a shout out to my friend and owner of Shape Fasther weight loss program really works.  You may also want to use an appetite suppressant to help curb your food cravings.  Some people do not like to use appetite suppressants, and, instead, prefer natural supplements.  Check out Got2bGina’s Herbal and Wellness Center if you prefer natural supplements that work.  I know that Nature’s Sunshine Products (NSP) are of the highest quality and the most effective herbal supplements.  I have tried many different brands of natural supplements and none of them compare to NSP.tablet

I Am Still Thirsty…

Did you know that developing just a simple healthy habit of drinking water will energize your body and mind?water

Sometimes you can become so caught up with life and stuff, that you do not see what is right in front of you. I want to help you to refocus and gain clarity. I wish I could say that it will not cost you nothing but that is not true. Keeping the body hydrated does cost, but the benefits outweigh the cost. I believe that wonderful you deserve to drink delicious purified, distilled or mountain spring water—do not drink water from a faucet that does not have a water purification system. Environmentalist would disagree with me about drinking bottled water because of the damage plastic bottles cause the environment.  I would like to be a fly on their walls to see if they have invested in a water purification system.
