5 Benefits of Drinking Hot Water

Water is simply the best thirst quencher.  I have shared several posts about the importance of drinking water.  I also wrote an article a few months ago titled “I Am Still Thirsty,” in which you were provided many of the benefits of drinking water.  One evening last week, I was in the kitchen trying to decide what I wanted to drink with my dinner.  I normally settled for a glass or bottle of cold water, or sometimes I would drink coffee, or green tea.  On that particular evening, I put some water in my tea kettle, and, in a matter of minutes my tea kettle had started to whistle.  I poured the hot water into my tea cup—that is what I settled on.  Yes, hot water.  Drinking hot water has some great benefits.  Here are five great benefits of drinking hot water:

1. Digestion

Drinking a glass of hot water is particularly beneficial for digestion, especially after a meal.  Most of us are in the habit of drinking cold water during or after a meal, which can harden the oil present in the consumed foods and create a fat deposit on the inner wall of your intestine.  This has the potential to cause intestinal cancer.

2. Bowel Movements

Hot water can help stimulate your intestine and make you have a bowel movement.  Normally, weight loss would be number one on my list, but I have learned that waste elimination is essential to your overall health.   

3. Weight Loss

Hot water helps with weight loss because it revs up the metabolism.  And, the best time to rev up your metabolism is first thing in the morning.  Start burning that fat early.

4.  Helps Heal Sore Throat and Nasal Congestion

Drinking hot water has always been a great natural remedy for colds, coughs and a sore throat.  It aids in loosening phlegm to clear nasal congestion.  You can add 1 teaspoon of salt to a cup of hot water and stir until dissolved.  Then gargle with it to help heal a sore throat.

Drinking hot water helps your body to release toxins, because it makes your body temperature rise and you begin to perspire.  You can add fresh squeezed lemon to the hot water to boost the detoxing effects.
